Do you want to know more about Types of Concrete?

When we talk about concrete, we are referring to a shiny material, with multiple advantages for constructions. Concrete is used in many different types of construction, from patios and driveways to runways and bridges, all over the world. So, therefore there are many Types of Concrete…

In fact, it is possible to cast concrete into a wide variety of shapes, and these, in turn, can be used for a wide variety of purposes. This material also comes in various formats; each optimized for certain building requirements. The right concrete can make or break a construction job.

Types of concrete

Let us see, then, the most outstanding types of concrete:

1. Normal strength concrete

When cement, water, and aggregates are mixed together, a normal-strength concrete is obtained. This concrete will have resistances between 10 and 40 MPa.

The characteristics of the cement and the climatic conditions at the construction site determine the initial setting time of 30 to 90 minutes for normal strength concrete.

2. Unfinished concrete

There will be no reinforcing steel in regular concrete. Simple concrete will have a density between 2,200 and 2,500 kg/m3. With a compressive strength between 200 and 500 kg/cm2, it is moderately strong.

Pavements and structures, particularly in places with less need for high tensile strength, are common places to find this type of concrete. The level of durability that this variety of concrete provides is highly commendable.

3. Types of reinforced concrete

Reinforced cement concrete is concrete to which reinforcements have been applied to increase its tensile strength. A plain concrete slab behaves poorly in tension but well in compression.

Therefore, the reinforcement will bear the load of tensile stresses. The combination of the strength of reinforcement with plain concrete makes R.C.C. effective. Reinforcing steel in concrete can be rods, bars, or mesh. Reinforcing fibers have also recently been produced.

4. Prestressed concrete

Today, most large-scale concrete construction projects use prestressed concrete components. It is a unique method in which bars or tendons embedded in the concrete are stressed prior to the application of the final service load.

These tension bars were securely fastened and held at both ends of the structural unit while the concrete was mixed and poured. When the concrete has set and hardened, the structural unit will be crushed. Due to the prestressing, the base of the concrete element will be able to better resist stress.

5. Types of precast concrete

Many structural elements can be fabricated and molded in a factory and then transported to the site for final assembly, based on project specifications. Precast concrete refers to precast concrete structures.

Concrete blocks, stair modules, precast walls and posts, lintels and many more components are precast concrete units. These modules benefit from fast build times because they need to be assembled. Since it is made locally, you know it will be of high quality. Precautions are taken only for the duration of your shipment.

6. Lightweight concrete

Lightweight aggregates can be obtained by using lightweight aggregates in the concrete mix design. The thickness of concrete is largely due to the aggregates used in its composition.

Reduced weight aggregates include pumice, perlite, and slag. Long-span bridge decks and other applications where protection of steel structures is required use lightweight concrete. Building blocks can only be made with these as well.

7. High Density Concrete

In this case heavy aggregates are used. Crushed rocks serve as coarse aggregates in construction. Barytes is the most popular choice when it comes to heavy aggregates.

These aggregates see the most widespread application in the construction of plants and related infrastructure. The dense aggregate provides a strong defense against any radiation.
