Do you want to know the main types of concrete that exist?

Concrete has become one of the great protagonists in the world of construction. And, currently there are many types of concrete that we use. From Poyatos we want to take a brief trip through some of them…

Firstly, it should be noted that the components, the density of the material... create great differences between these products. And it is that depending on these factors we find three large types of concrete: Lightweight (between 800 and 1800 Kg/cm3, it needs the incorporation of air and specific additives), Normal (more than 2000 Kg/cm3, it is part of the armed structures) and Heavy (more than 3000 kg/cm3, ideal for armoring structures).

Other types of concrete

But, in addition to those mentioned above, we find other types of concrete, among which we highlight:

1. H.Armed

The most widespread, is characterised by containing steel structures inside. Its main function is to resist tensile and compression loads.

2. H. Ordinary

A mixture of Portland cement, water, and aggregates of various sizes, gravel, and sand.

3. H. Prestressing and Post Stressing

In the case of Prestressed Concrete, we are talking about a mixture inside which it has a steel frame. Designed to be tensioned depending on the traction after pouring.

While in Prestressed Concrete, the steel reinforcement is tensioned after the cement has set and hardened.

4. H. in mass

It does not need internal steel structures and only supports forces that are related to compression.

5. Self-compacting

Thanks to the precise dosage of superplasticizer additives, it does not require compaction.

6. Other types of concrete

• Cellular or aerated: the incorporation of air or other gases into the mixture is required. So it becomes a low-density concrete.Cyclopean: Inside it has stones that exceed 30 cm.
• High density: Higher density aggregates (baryte, hematite or magnetite) are used in its manufacture.
• Without fines: a mixture with coarse aggregate and without sand.
