Concrete has become one of the great protagonists in the world of construction. And, today there are many types of concrete that we use. From Poyatos we want to take a brief trip through some of them ...

Firstly, it should be noted that the components, the density of the material ... create great differences between these products. And it is that depending on these factors we find three major types of concrete: Light (between 800 and 1800 Kg / cm3, needs the incorporation of air and specific additives), Normal (more than 2000 Kg / cm3, is part of the reinforced structures) and Heavy (more than 3000 kg / cm3, ideal for armoring structures).

Other types of concrete

But, in addition to those discussed above, we find other types of concrete, among which we highlight:

H. Armed

The most widespread, is characterized by containing steel structures inside. Its main function is to resist tensile and compressive loads.

H. Ordinary

A mixture of Portland cement, water and various sized aggregates, gravel and sand.

H. Prestressed and Poststressed

In the case of Prestressed Concrete, we are talking about a mixture whose interior has steel reinforcement. Designed to be tensioned depending on the traction after pouring it.

While in Post-tensioned concrete, the steel reinforcement is stretched after the cement has set and hardened.

H. en masse

It does not require internal steel structures and supports only stresses related to compression.

Self compacting

Thanks to the precise dosage of superplasticizers, it does not need compaction.

Other types of concrete

• Cellular or aerated: the incorporation of air or other gases into the mixture is required. So it becomes a low-density concrete.
• Cyclopean: Inside it has stones that exceed 30 cm.
• High density: In its manufacture, higher density aggregates are used (barite, hematite or magnetite).
• No fines: a mixture with coarse aggregate and without sand.
